However, it is common to find one huge flap that covers both rear wheels. Large trucks are the ones known for such. Large mudflaps have information intended for the public.

The size and shape of mudflaps is often a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer large products that extend to the ground. The large mudflaps are usually more cosmetic than they are functional. On the other hand, some people prefer brief product that are hardly noticeable. The most common shape is rectangle, but they can also be square or assume several other shapes.

Mudflaps are usually sold without decorations. However, the buyer has the option of adding decorations such as artwork and texts. If the vehicle is owned by a company, the company logo may appear on the mudflap. Some have and continue to use them to advertise products, services, or businesses. Other customizations that people incorporate are LEDS, light-emitting diodes. The LEDs are often operated by the driver or they may remain on at all times. Different states impose different regulations on mudflaps. Regulations exist to ensure that even with decoration and other customizations, the products must conserve their primary functionality.
