Which Mercedes is the Fastest: 1979 Mercedes 450 SEL or 2013 S350 CDI?

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 04:30 PM PDT

From the same Auto Express video series that brought us the E30 BMW M3 against the F30 BMW 320d drag race, we now have a similar duel, this time between two Mercedes-Benz S-Class limousines.

The 1979 Mercedes 450 SEL was the top of the range model of the W116 generation, the first of the large Mercedes saloons to be officially called the S-Class. Powered by a 6.8-liter V8 gasoline engine delivering 286 hp and 549 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque, the 450 SEL was the late 1970's equivalent of today's S63 AMG.

The report / analysis we quoted argued that neither of the three (the only automotive-related brands out of their selected ten) had what it takes to continue Stateside, and it prophesized their demise within the next 18 months. We'll Soon Be 90 Percent European, Hyundai Says

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 01:35 PM PDT

No, a European car manufacturer hasn't bought Hyundai. What the Korean automaker is saying is that 90 percent of the vehicles it sells in Europe will soon be manufactured on the continent as well.

Hyundai will introduce an all-new i10 city car towards the end of this year and will transfer production of Europe-bound versions of its smallest model from India to Turkey. Consequently, the only Hyundai cars sold in Europe that won't be built in Europe will be models destined for the UK and Ireland, which will continue to be made in India alongside those for other right-hand-drive markets.

Do Check Out This Vintage Ford Video About Car Styling Philosophy in the 1960s

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 11:31 AM PDT

Some might say that the passion which used to go into designing and building cars is all-but gone nowadays, when each vehicle is designed to appeal to a very specific clientele, and corners are cut to get costs down and profits up. This results in many cars that look the same, like the freshly-revealed Toyota Corolla, which from the side reminds me of Kia's Forte sedan. Read more »

Porsche Cayenne Driver Hits Car and Continues Like Nothing Happened

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 10:37 AM PDT

Needless to say, no one should ever leave the scene of an accident unless, of course, it's a matter of life or death - for example, we can't blame this Los Angeles woman for leaving.

The actions of this particular driver in the Porsche Cayenne are inexcusable. Not only does he (or she) enter the opposite lane of a double line road placing many motorists in danger, but the driver also crashes into a black sedan (possibly a Lada) to make room and then stomps on the gas pedal and drives away!

Supercar Spotter Sees 11 Lamborghini Aventadors in London in Two Hours!

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 09:10 AM PDT

One could be forgiven for thinking the Lamborghini Aventador is a car made by a UK-based automaker, if he or she were to pass through the more exclusive of London's neighborhoods. It could occur to some that rich Brits are buying these wide and low two-seaters as somewhat of a patriotic act, showing their support for local businesses and ideas – but it isn't. Read more »

Autocar Says New Mercedes S-Class Coupe Shown In Display, We Shake Our Heads [Updated]

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 08:57 AM PDT

We're not saying it's impossible to be fooled by video shots and renderings, but sometimes it's not that hard to tell whether a car seen is a coupe or a saloon, which brings us to this cropped photo of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class' large display on the center console, courtesy of Autocar.

The British magazine claims that the car you see here is the first camouflage-free photo of the new S-Class Coupe (or perhaps next CL, if AutoMotorundSport's report is correct). The author states that, "the Mercedes S-class coupé has been revealed in a dashboard graphic captured during the car's development programme" adding that "the dashboard graphic appears to show a slightly modified front bumper from that fitted to the new S-class saloon."

Mazda Says MX-5 it’s the World’s Fastest Convertible - If It Starts To Rain…

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 08:16 AM PDT

No, Mazda isn't adopting all-wheel drive for the MX-5 / Miata, but when I first watched the video I really didn't know what to expect. It is a recently uploaded promo that showcases the swiftness of the car's folding hardtop mechanism.

They put it up against some serious competition, including a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ford Mustang V6 and a Porsche 911. However, they add a twist by making it rain (caused by water tanker in the background, not actual clouds, though). All cars must then raise their roof, and then set off.

SUVs Ahoy! Mitsubishi Pajero Stuck in Sea Needs a Helping Hand

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 05:52 AM PDT

Fortunately, an automobile stuck in sea is a very uncommon scenario. When it happens, though, it calls for a special solution.

From what we understand, this incident appears to have taken place at St Ives Bay on the Atlantic coast of north-west Cornwall in the United Kingdom (we could be wrong about that; if we are, tell us in the comments) when a Mitsubishi Pajero owned by a rental boat company got stuck in the sea.

POV Test Drive of 2014 Roush Stage 3 Supercharged Ford Mustang

Posted: 07 Jun 2013 04:50 AM PDT

Since the current incarnation of the Ford Mustang is approaching the end of its production run, it means that the car has been improved considerably over the years, and in its current form, even the V6-powered car could be called desirable, because it's very cheap and has a lot of performance for the cash.

Still, even if you do get a special 'Stang, it won't really end up costing an exaggerated amount – this Roush Stage 3, which uses a supercharger to boost the 5.0-liter V8's power figure to 575 hp, costs $67,830.
