What do you need to learn to become a tire technician?

There are millions of automobiles in the United States and around the world. Tire is the one thing which is common in all the automobiles. For that reason, the tire business is huge around the world. You need to know how to prepare if you are planning to work in this field of work.

The job of the tire technicians involve repairing, balancing, installing and rotating tires. They inspect tires for wear, patch some tires and make sure they are properly inflated.

Special treatment is required for some tires. Depending on the season, some tires are studded for special traction on snow and ice. Retreading of previously worn tires is also a main function.

Tire technicians can also take inventory along with other functions like maintaining tire repair equipment and selling tires.

People who want to become tire technicians need to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Employers are always in search of the best candidates.

You also need to have some experience in the tire business. Job training will also be provided for the people to become proficient enough to run the business themselves.

A tire technician also needs to have good customer service skills. Your customer is the most important thing to you. You want to make sure their needs are met. Proper communication is needed to meet your customer's requirements.

Mechanical aptitude is a plus, as you will be working with mechanical things. You will be operating tire changing machines and tire balancers. Now days, almost everything in a business is done with computer support. Computers are used for many purposes like inventory, payroll and even billing. Basic computer skills is also a main requirement.

You will need to be able to work with minimal supervision. Tire business is an extremely busy one. You should apply your skills while others are busy doing something else.

Tire technicians have to do some heavy lifting. You should be able to do the lifting whenever required. It is also needed to do it safely.

You will most likely need a driver's license and you may be required to deliver parts and tires to other locations. A clean driving record is also needed.

In this industry you can work up to $16 per hour. You can also think of running your own business. In order to be a tire technician you need to have all the above mentioned qualities. You should be able to help a customer pick the best wheels for his car or help them fill out tire rebates. With a little education you can perform well in this business.
