Spied: What Brand and Model is This Mystery Hatch?

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 05:57 PM PDT

Yes, it's our "mystery" scoop of the month and this time, our spies have forwarded us these images of an unidentified hatchback prototype slathered from top to bottom in a white camouflage wrap with wiggly black graphics. They told us that they're not sure what it is, though, they're leaning towards an unknown Ford model.

Here's what our man with the long lens told us: "We believe it's a Ford and it was driving together with a current Fiesta with German plates from Cologne (K- ) which indicates the European base test center. And the size is about the same as the current Fiesta, just slightly smaller."

Audi Teases Headlamps of 2014 A8 Sedan Facelift

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 05:19 PM PDT

Scheduled to appear on the market at the end of this year, the facelifted Audi A8 will be the first model to use the new Matrix LED headlights.

Although Audi calls it the new A8, spy-photos have revealed a very similar silhouette to the current model, so it's a facelift instead of a new generation. The headlights shown in our opening picture really match those on the camouflaged prototypes, so we're guessing that's exactly what the refreshed A8's "eyes" will look like.

In fact, the values and differences presented in the study really shocked us, especially the most extreme ones like the Mercedes-Benz GL, which according to the information presented, should really only be bought as a diesel.

Holden Sets New Nürburgring Record for Trucks with VF SS V Redline Ute at 8:19.47 [w/Video]

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 03:22 PM PDT

If a tuned diesel VW T5 set a lap record for vans on the Nürburgring, it should be a walk in the park for a V8-powered pickup truck like the Holden VF SS V Redline Ute, right? This seems to be the reasoning behind Holden's decision to  ship one of its new VF SS V Redline Utes to the famous German circuit.

As expected, the Australians didn't return home empty handed, with their Ute setting a world record for a commercial and utility vehicle – a category that didn't exist before, it has to be said.

Oops, They Did it Again: Plum-Flavored Lamborghini Aventador Replica in China

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 02:16 PM PDT

Before you sprout something nasty about Chinese replica makers after seeing these photos of a purple-colored Lamborghini Aventador wannabe, one should keep in mind that over the years, we've seen a great number of supercar clones from countries all over the world, but mostly, from the good ol' US of A

With that of out the way, let's see what we have here. Well, for starters, the spotter tells us it was purportedly photographed in the city of Neijiang in southeastern China and that it obviously apes the design of the V12-motivated Aventador.

Watch Sebastien Loeb’s Pikes Peak Record Run from Inside the Peugeot 208 T16

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 01:46 PM PDT

We know that you have been waiting for this since news broke out that Sebastien Loeb shattered the previous record (dating from 2012) of the world's most famous hillclimb race in the monstrous 875HP Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak. After all, it's not every day that we see a Pikes Peak record being broken by more than one minute and a half!

The following onboard video of the stunning 8 minute and 13.878 second climb may help us understand how that was possible. Although when you combine one of rallying's most successful world champions ever and a car that boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 1hp/kg, it's not very difficult to imagine such an outcome.

Volvo Celebrates 60 Years of Its First Wagon, the Duett

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 01:24 PM PDT

As its name suggested, the Volvo Duett was designed to be two cars in one: a van and an estate. The Swedish brand's first series-produced estate car, the Duett is the model that made Volvo's hallmark wagons possible.

On July 4, 2013, the Volvo Duett celebrates its 60th anniversary, as on the same day in 1953, Volvo produced its first 445 Duett. Based on the 445 chassis, the first Duett was bought by none other than Volvo's boss at the time, Assar Gabrielsson.

Darn…GM Reportedly Freezes Development of Flagship Cadillac Sedan

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 11:55 AM PDT

Back in 2011, Cadillac presented the very well received (we liked it as well) Ciel concept at the Concours d'Elegance classic-car show in Pebble Beach, California, with its designers saying that the open-top study was hinting at styling elements of a future large Cadillac sedan.

It was not the first time Cadillac was testing the public's reaction about a flagship model, as in 2003 the V16-powered Cadillac Sixteen wowed fans and journalists alike.

Jaguar F-Type Roadster Shows Off its New Vossen Wheels

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 11:30 AM PDT

It's almost a given that F-Type will eventually become the most loved Jaguar child in the tuning industry, and while excessive aero packages and hardcore engine upgrades might not be everyone's cup of tea, alloy wheel options is a different story, as it's an easy and relatively (or comparably, if you must) affordable way to customize the looks of your car. New Skoda Octavia RS Spotted Out in the Open in Both Body Styles

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 10:57 AM PDT

Having driven many different Skoda Octavias over the years (even a first-gen vRS with the 5v/cylinder 1.8-liter turbo), I've grown in my own personal opinion from thinking it's a cheaper VW Golf clone with few merits to now understanding its qualities and its appeal for others.

However, for me, the thing that made any Octavia cool was the fact that you could get it as an RS (vRS for those living in Britain). Even cooler was that from the very first generation onward, they also made it available as a hot estate, a real kudos-builder in Europe, where people just seem to like their kind.

Reborn Datsun Brand Teases First Model, an Affordable Micra-Based Supermini

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 09:50 AM PDT

The first new car to bear the Datsun badge has just been teased by Nissan, and predictably, it won't get your heart racing, because it has been designed with a low price point in mind first, then the rest…

However, looking at these two teaser shots, one could see a funky supermini, with clearly Micra roots, at least in terms of the overall proportions, and definitely very similar underpinnings. Currently unnamed, the project goes by the internal designation 'K2', and should sell well in the "emerging markets" of the world, but it is primarily aimed for the Indian market.

All-New 2014 Mini Cooper S Scooped Completely Undisguised!

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 09:11 AM PDT

It was to our understanding that, Mini's German parent firm, the BMW Group, had made plans to blow the covers off the all-new, third generation of the Hatch just before or during the press days of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but evidently, they didn't count on someone being on hand during an official photo shoot of the car…in July. Well, all the better for us!

There were three cars spotted at the press-book photo session, two Cooper S models finished in light orange and gunmetal grey shades respectively, and a regular Cooper in red paint with a white roof, stripes and mirrors.

As we've mentioned many times in the past in our scoop posts, the 2014 Mini hatchback evolves the series' signature looks that were inspired by the original model penned by Greek-British car designer Sir Alec Isigonis.

The most visible changes concern the front end that is directly inspired from the 2011 Mini Rocketman, a concept for an even smaller Mini hatchback that never came into fruition, with bug-eye, LED-equipped headlamps and a new interpretation of the firm's grille. The front windshield also looks more raked while at the back, we see that Mini's designers used much larger and prominent taillights.

All-New 2014 Mazda3 Sedan: This Could Be The First Official Teaser

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 07:04 AM PDT

We were just tipped off by Carscoops reader Bruno about an allegedly official photo teaser of the new 2014 Mazda3 Sedan that has been making the rounds on a number of internet forums this morning.

At a first (and second…) glance, it appears to be legit, though, a quick look at the galleries we've posted of the hatchback version of the Mazda3 reveals an identical image of the five-door model. So, what is it; real or fake?

Sebastian Loeb Obliterates Pikes Peak Record and Wins with 8:13.878 [w/Video]

Posted: 01 Jul 2013 05:00 AM PDT

In motorsport, progress is usually very incremental, and its fruits translate into tenths or even hundredths of a second gained. However, while that statement may stand true when it comes to the conventional types of motorsport, doing the annual Pikes Peak hillclimb is like successfully completing a fast and consistent lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife - a very special achievement, and therefore the normal rules don't apply.

For instance, this year, "newcomer" Sebastien Loeb managed to win by shaving more than a minute and a half off last year's 9:46.164 time, set by Rhys Millen!
