New Chevrolet Impala is First American Sedan to Get Top Consumer Reports Rating in 20 Years Posted: 26 Jul 2013 04:34 PM PDT The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has earned the top spot overall for sedans in Consumer Reports' ratings, a position that has been held by Japanese and European models for the last 20 years. The Impala scored an "Excellent" 95 that places it both at the top of its "Large Sedan" category and among the top-rated vehicles tested by Consumer Reports. Only two models scored better – the Tesla Model S liftback (99) and the BMW 135i coupe (97). Read more » |
Industry Forecasters Suggest Dacia Sandero May Be the UK’s Least-Depreciating New Car Posted: 26 Jul 2013 03:44 PM PDT The prospect of depreciation scares many from buying a new vehicle, yet Dacia says that in the UK, their Sandero is not only the cheapest new ride available, but also the kingdom's "least depreciating car," according to industry forecasters. As always, take such bold claims with three quarters of a grain of salt, because while the reasoning behind it all does make sense, reality may come to contradict what has been written here in a few months'/years' time, after the Sandero has had time to grow on the often picky buyers from the Isles. Spy Shots: New Mercedes-Benz S-Class XL for those Who Miss the Maybach Posted: 26 Jul 2013 02:33 PM PDT Given how competitive German carmakers are with each other, even more in the luxury segments, it was rather surprising to see Mercedes-Benz's parent company Daimler throwing in the white towel and announcing the death of Maybach, thus leaving the BMW Group with its Rolls-Royce brand and the VW Group with Bentley alone in most exotic saloon category. We don't know what will happen in the distant future, but for now, Daimler is looking to cover parts of the segment with special versions of its spanking new S-Class with much longer wheelbases and increased luxury appointments. Cute Russian Two-Year Old Girl Can Name Every Car in a Parking Lot Posted: 26 Jul 2013 01:34 PM PDT Who knows if it will ever come in handy in the future (it probably won't), but in the present, we must say we are very delighted and impressed to see this two-year old girl from Russia being able to name the brand of every single vehicle pointed out to her in a parking lot by her parent/guardian. Lumma Design Makes BMW X5 F15 Look Like a Toy Car Posted: 26 Jul 2013 01:07 PM PDT There's a point where form can no longer beat function, and has to accept its practical, sensible ways or risk becoming ridiculous. I'm not saying that the new Lumma Design-tuned BMW X5 F15 is there yet, but it's definitely close. Tuned old-gen BMW X5s looked a bit more dignified than this, and sported their mods more subtly, even if said mods happened to be outrageous. Read more » |
Scoop: McLaren Says this is a Test Mule for New Entry-Level P13 Posted: 26 Jul 2013 12:41 PM PDT What we all thought was a prototype of the facelifted MP4-12C when our spies captured the Spider model testing at the Nürburgring earlier this week, may be in fact a test mule for McLaren's upcoming entry-level sports car, currently known under the codename P13. Honda Reenacts Ayrton Senna's World Record at Suzuka with Lights and Sounds Posted: 26 Jul 2013 12:16 PM PDT Honda is fond of Ayrton Senna's memory, and seems to genuinely appreicate the man who provided feedback for the chassis tuning of the fabled NSX supercar. Now, some 19 years after the Brazilian driver's untimely and unfortunate death at Imola, the Japanese manufacturer has done something rather special, using their own Suzuka track, which played host for many Japanese F1 GPs, as well as a very large number of lights and speakers. Mercedes-Benz Releases Genuine Accessories for the New S-Class; Bike Rack, Anyone? Posted: 26 Jul 2013 10:59 AM PDT Mercedes-Benz today released a new line of genuine accessories' for the new S-Class, which includes some rather curious elements for a flagship luxury sedan such as bicycle racks and roof boxes. Maybe it is just me, but the S-Class doesn't exactly look like the appropriate car to carry bicycles around or more luggage than its boot allows… Read more » |
Mini Mocks Anthony Weiner aka Carlos Danger with Humorous Twitter Account and Pics Posted: 26 Jul 2013 10:31 AM PDT As hard as one tries not to bring out the comic aspect of a former congressional representative and New York City mayoral candidate named Weiner who has been caught twice by the media sending and receiving sexual photos and messages, it's practically impossible to hold back. Guilty as charged, as they say. Now, if you're wondering what Anthony Weiner, who was posing as Carlos Danger when he was sex-ting a young 23-year old woman from Illinois named Sydney Leather (before you say, 'oh, come on now', we swear that's her real name…), has to do with the automotive industry, the story doesn't, but Mini found way to make a humorous connection. EVO’s Metcalfe Drives his Own Renault Clio 182 Trophy and Explains Its Fortes Posted: 26 Jul 2013 09:55 AM PDT Compared to Renault's first Clio Williams from the mid-1990s, the modern Clio RS feels like a posh luxury car compared to its illustrious predecessor, and while it may be faster on paper, keen drivers would still prefer the experience of driving the former, especially if they have done so before, and can compare the experience. Nevertheless, the Williams wasn't Renault's best effort at making a small hot hatch, and they got much better with the next-gen car, which after its final facelift and revamp was pushing out 176 hp. To my knowledge (and after some quick thinking/calculating), the Clio 182 as it was known, still has the best power to weight ratio of any hot Clio to date, being rated at just under 162 hp/ton. Woman Leaves $125,000 Bentley Continental GTC at Car Wash to Valet, Finds it in a Wall! Posted: 26 Jul 2013 09:18 AM PDT We're pretty sure "Wash and Shine" means doing something very different to a car than the condition of the Bentley Continental GTC convertible you're looking at in the opening picture, which belongs to Manchester, UK resident Jessica Sawyer. The 30-year old businesswoman left her prized £80,000 (about $125,000 / €94,000) cabriolet to a valet at the Wash and Shine car wash in Cheetham Hill just before she went to work, but 15 minutes later, she received a phone call from the police informing her that the Bentley had just been crashed into the car wash's reception area! Toyota Begins Public Trials of Winglet Personal Transport Assistance Robot [w/Video] Posted: 26 Jul 2013 08:36 AM PDT Congratulations Toyota, you have just re-discovered the Segway. Even though you've named it the Winglet and are describing it as a "personal transport assistance robot ridden in a standing position", we fail to see how this is a different concept to Segway's, two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle, that has been in the market since the beginning of the previous decade. Subaru's Reheated Frankfurt Motor Show Offerings Include Viziv and WRX Concepts Posted: 26 Jul 2013 08:08 AM PDT Unless Subaru is preparing a special surprise for us that it doesn't want to share yet (it has happened before with many carmakers), its 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show booth will be a repeat of what we've seen before, and by that, we mean, aside from the usual production cars, the Japanese company will display the Viziv and WRX Concepts. Spied: Nissan Versa's Sunny Twin Gains an Altima Face in China Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:37 AM PDT Photos of two completely undisguised examples of what is the facelifted 2014 Nissan Sunny sedan have popped up on a Chinese website, leading us to believe that the Japanese company may very well be preparing the same updates for the North American version of the car, which is none other than the Versa sedan. Guy Trolls LA Police Officers Conducting Traffic Stop, Tells Them to Shut the F…k Up! [NSFW] Posted: 26 Jul 2013 07:05 AM PDT What do you do when you see police officers stopping another vehicle for a traffic violation? Most people would answer that question with a very simple, "I take a quick look and just go on my way", but not YouTube author and bicycle rider Daniel Saulmon,·who judging by his videos, likes standing up to, and sometimes even trolling, cops. In one of his recent uploads, Saulmon grabs his hand-held camera and runs to a pair of officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), who at that moment, had pulled over a Toyota driver for a traffic stop and were checking his license and registration. VW Celebrates Exactly 40 Years of Building the Passat Posted: 26 Jul 2013 06:28 AM PDT Volkswagen Passats from all eras are a very common sight on all roads, on all continents and are still appreciated by a wide array of drivers with differing needs. People even still run the first-gen model, deliveries of which began in July of 1973, as well as the newer ones, though the latter aren't as cherished as the Giugiaro-designed original. Read more » |
New Renault Clio R.S. 200 Envisioned as a Gordini Model Posted: 26 Jul 2013 06:07 AM PDT Talk about bringing back to life a famous nameplate only to dilute it by using it for special edition models with minor cosmetic tweaks. That's what Renault has been doing with the Gordini moniker for the past few years, with the once iconic French sports car brand's name now standing for a blue shade with white stripes and added equipment features. LaFerrari Flexes its V12 Hybrid Powertrain on the Fiorano Track Posted: 26 Jul 2013 05:30 AM PDT Some five months after Ferrari blew the covers off its latest flagship supercar with the awkward name 'LaFerrari' at the 2013 Geneva Salon, the Italians are finishing up the development of their first ever hybrid model under full camouflage, which is kind of redundant if you think about it, especially since first deliveries are just around the corner. Opel Adam Cabrio Announcement Is Imminent, Report Says Posted: 26 Jul 2013 04:57 AM PDT Do you remember the Opel Adam Rocks Concept from this year's Geneva auto show? As it turns out, the GM-owned German carmaker plans to launch an open version of the Adam that will use a retractable roof like the one from the study, and which is similar to the Fiat 500C's roof.
