2014 Mazda3 Sedan: This Is Really It, The First Official Photos! Posted: 03 Jul 2013 06:10 PM PDT Let's all give a big great Спасибо (pronounced spa-SEE-buh) to the guys over at Top Gear Russia for the early release of the first official photos of the new 2014 Mazda3 Sedan and a big thank you to Carscoops reader Laurence H. for telling us about it. The new four-door sedan of the latest generation "3" is exactly what you'd expect it to be – an even prettier body style than the hatchback (or at least it is in our eyes and you're always free to disagree with us) that also looks like a Mazda6 that shrunk in the dryer. The addition of the boot looks seamless in these pictures, thanks in part to the elongated roofline and the crispy-styled rear end with a different design from the hatchback. Unsurprisingly, the interior is the same as on the five-door model, though, we'll have to wait and see if it the four-door body style affects passenger space. One thing is for sure – the boot will be much larger due to the longer rear overhang. Read more » |
Automakers Are Watching Closely What Is Happening in Egypt Posted: 03 Jul 2013 05:51 PM PDT The political unrest in Egypt is taking its toll on automakers, with Toyota having previously temporarily shut down its subsidiary in the African country because of the demonstrations against (the now former) President Mohamed Morsi. The Japanese carmaker said that operations restarted and that none of its dealerships was damaged. A Toyota spokesman told Autonews Europe that sales were not affected and that he was not aware of any effects on Toyota's CKD assembly plant in Cairo. Read more » |

Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series Smokes SRT Viper in MT Test, But Also Costs 3X As Much… Posted: 03 Jul 2013 04:30 PM PDT The latest comparison test put together by Motor Trend, between the Mercedes-BenzSLS AMG Black Series (priced from $275,000) and the much cheaper at $102,000 SRT Viper, perfectly illustrates that smooth is much faster around a racetrack. You see, while the American sports car may be lighter and more powerful, it can't match the German car's planted chassis feel, smoothness and virtually-instant gear changes. This makes sense on the road, because you can drive quickly, consistently and safely in the SLS, whereas the Viper just looks a lot more tail-happy and violent. Read more » |
German Owner Reaches 1 Million Kilomter Mark in Skoda Fabia Diesel Posted: 03 Jul 2013 03:21 PM PDT Peter Kirchhoff from Sprockhövel near Wuppertal, Germany, has driven his 2000 Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI 74 kW (101 PS) for 1 million kilometers (621,371 miles). As a true German, Kirchhoff meticulously planned the moment his Skoda's odometer would show 999,999 kilometers so that it coincided with a trip to the Skoda Museum in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. Weistec's Smoking Hot 850HP Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Featured on Tuned Posted: 03 Jul 2013 01:45 PM PDT Jeremy Clarkson, in his infinite wisdom, did make one crucial discovery for mankind. He found the easy way for smokers to quench their craving for nicotine – it was called smoking…a rear-driven car's back wheels for amusement. Furthermore, since Mr. Clarkson likes fast Mercedes-Benz cars, we thought it was only natural that we bring him up when talking about the Weistech E63 AMG, a car he would most definitely get. Nissan Wants Its Own, Better Renault Twizy EV Posted: 03 Jul 2013 01:00 PM PDT The Renault Twizy EV, a vehicle that makes sense for cruising on the beachfront in Ibiza, and very short pizza delivery duties, is actually backed by a very good concept. It is very compact, easy to maneuver and park, while emitting no harmful gasses (at least not directly), and carrying two people in tandem. However, it is hampered by its limited range, very harsh suspension, limited practicality and, of course, the cost of leasing the batteries. However, Renault Group partner Nissan now wants to make its own, better version of the Twizy, as AutoNews Europe reports. Read more » |

OMG! Seriously? A New Jersey Girl's Annoying Tornado Experience [NSFW] Posted: 03 Jul 2013 11:17 AM PDT Seriously...now; how many OMGs – that's "Oh my God" in text language for the uninitiated- can you fit in a video that's about a minute and some spare seconds long? Well, one young girl from New Jersey named "Ashley Castore" managed to jam in about 20 OMGs, though, to be completely frank, we kind of lost track when she went into rap mode in the middle of the video. Pro_Cee’D GT, Kia’s First Ever Hot Hatch Tested Posted: 03 Jul 2013 09:38 AM PDT Since Kia's new Cee'd and Pro_Cee'd three- and five-door hatchbacks are winning praise for their competence in the class, despite having only one prior version for the manufacturer to gain experience from, whereas all of the main rivals literally have decades-worth of history in Europe, it was only natural that they eventually used it as a base for a hot hatch. Are These Ukrainian Drivers Lucky, Talented or Stupid? Posted: 03 Jul 2013 08:09 AM PDT When it comes to road incidents that play out well, it's often the result of luck of the moment, talent behind the wheel or a combination of the two. In regards to the following incident that occurred in Ukraine and which was captured on a dash-cam of one of the involved drivers, we would say it's the latter. Read more » |
Mini Pokes Some Fun at Recent Scoops, Says The New 2014 Hatch Will Look Better In Person Posted: 03 Jul 2013 07:39 AM PDT While capturing future cars completely or near naked during a photo shoot is surely not uncommon these days (remember our scoop of the Mercedes CLA?), the fact that the world has the opportunity to see these vehicles on websites like our own as well as magazines well before the official launch date, doesn't always bond well with automakers. Nevertheless, we don't often hear complaints from carmakers, which prefer to downplay these incidents or just take advantage of the extra and equally important, free advertising. Naturally, the BMW Group's Mini division came to learn about the photos of the undisguised 2014 Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S that appeared on Carscoops and other websites earlier this week. Ferrari Issues Bizarre Statement Telling Employees to Send Same Email Only to 3 People Posted: 03 Jul 2013 07:06 AM PDT If not always, most of the times, internal memos are just that; internal, and when they come out in the open for all to see, we tend to call it a leak. The reason why we're saying all this is a press statement from Ferrari today titled "Ferrari: less email and more dialogue between co-workers". You can read the statement in full right below the break, but in a nutshell, it informs us that all Ferrari employees "will be talking to their colleagues more" from now on because the company has set much firmer limits to the number of emails sent inside the company and in particular, the same message can only be directed to three people. VW’s New Golf MK VII Estate a.k.a. the Next Jetta SportWagen Reviewed Posted: 03 Jul 2013 06:08 AM PDT Just after receiving its official pricing information for the UK market, the seventh-gen VW Golf estate (to be sold as the new Jetta SportWagen in North America) has also gained its first short test, in the typical fashion of local reviewer Honest John. As you'd expect for a VW Golf review, there's really nothing bad to say about the car, and if you've watched previous videos done for the hatch, it is advisable to re-watch them before having a go at this this, just so you have a clear picture about what Wolfsburg's breadwinner is all about. Opel and Vauxhall Launch "A New Kind of Insignia," the Country Tourer Posted: 03 Jul 2013 05:17 AM PDT If you're not a fan of estate cars with SUV-like body cladding, jacked up suspension and all-wheel drive, then you may want to skip this post, though, there's a lot to like about these types of vehicles as they try to be a little bit of everything. By everything, I also mean get decent fuel efficiency figures. Just have a look at Opel/Vauxhall's new Insignia Country Tourer. Read more » |
