Designer's Take on a New MazdaSpeed3 Performance Hatch Posted: 09 Aug 2013 02:26 PM PDT We're not going to lie; we like the new generation Mazda3's chiseled body that handsomely dresses an all-around good package that brings a lighter chassis, efficient powertrains and a presentable interior with all the amenities one expects from a modern car these days. One thing that's missing, though, at least for the time being, is a performance variant. Yes, we're talking about a successor to the MazdaSpeed3 in North America, known as Mazda3 MPS in other parts of the world, including Europe. Read more » |
These Fiat 500s Can Really Swim, Check Them Out in San Francisco Bay on Saturday Posted: 09 Aug 2013 01:22 PM PDT After making a splash on the interwebs and television sets through a series of commercials showing the Fiat 500 arriving in America via sea, the specially constructed Italian sub-compacts built on top of high-powered personal watercrafts, are making appearances throughout the summer in cities across the U.S. Read more » |
Sexism Is Far From Dead, As Recent TrueCar Ad Reveals… Posted: 09 Aug 2013 12:51 PM PDT It seems that there's a never-ending stream of offensive, sexist and manipulative ads out there, each targeted at a specific type of person, for whom it is meant to appear as informative and eye-opening, even though sometimes is the exact opposite... It wasn't that long ago (at all) that we posted a Maserati Ghibli ad, which painted the picture for the perfect (always-male) buyer that the company was looking for. Its goal was to flatter the ego of prospective buyers, and trick them into thinking they are the person in the ad when they drive the car. Read more » |
Subaru Ponders Whether to Go Mainstream or Remain a Niche Player as Profits Surge Posted: 09 Aug 2013 12:20 PM PDT What does a comparatively small player in the auto industry like Subaru do when it sees its stocks rise fivefold since the beginning of 2012, its profits almost triple to a record ¥48.5 billion (US$504 million / €377 million) last quarter, while also returning an industry leading operating margin of 12.7 percent that was second only to China's Great Wall Motor Co, according to data from Bloomberg News? In this scenario, companies usually have two (basic) options: either they continue on the same path that led them to where they are now, or they grow and attempt to challenge more mainstream players. New Jaguar F-Type Burns and Turns Into a Blob of Molten Aluminum Posted: 09 Aug 2013 11:35 AM PDT Reports are just in that a Jaguar F-Type caught fire in Herentals, Belgium, though you would not know just by looking at the pictures, because it is damaged way beyond recognition. Apparently, the owner was driving his recently-purchased new sports car on the highway, when he felt something wrong with the car and reportedly pulled over to see smoke coming out from underneath the bonnet. A Giggly Elon Musk Says There’s Room to Improve on the BMW i3 Posted: 09 Aug 2013 11:17 AM PDT BMW's first electric car, the i3 supermini, was revealed ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show debut, so it was only a matter of time until someone asked Tesla's Elon Musk his opinion about the car. In a phone interview with Bloomberg, Musk was asked this question and answered that he's glad BMW is launching an electric car but that "there's room to improve on the i3." Musk's blunt answer must have taken the reporter by surprise because he burst uncontrollably into laughter, with the billionaire joining him for a few good seconds. Read more » |

Alleged Ex-Ayrton Senna Honda NSX Up for Sale on eBay Posted: 09 Aug 2013 10:17 AM PDT Cars that once belonged to former Formula 1 world champions don't surface that often on the internet, so when one does it's always something special. One could say it's even magical, like this 1992 Honda NSX that was allegedly driven by none other than Formula One legend Ayrton Senna when he stayed in Portugal. Read more » |

Motorcyclist Plants Face in Open Car Door in Kiev Posted: 09 Aug 2013 09:42 AM PDT The fact that there are so many vehicles on the road, of varying size, shape and behavior means that accidents are bound to happen. For instance, drivers of regular passenger cars who have not tried guiding a motorized two-wheeled vehicle through traffic often don't pay as much attention as they should to their fellow road users. Mercedes Launches New Frugal Natural Gas and Diesel E-Class Models Posted: 09 Aug 2013 09:00 AM PDT In recent years, even premium car manufacturers have started to offer models that run on natural gas. Mercedes-Benz is one of them, with the German carmaker launching the E 200 Natural Gas Drive, a successor for the pre-facelift E 200 NGT BlueEfficiency that can run either on gasoline or on natural gas. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 154 hp (156 PS) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque, the E 200 NGD sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.4 seconds, with top speed rated at 220 km/h (137 mph). DMC Winks at Middle Eastern Buyers with Special Edition Ferrari F12berlinetta Posted: 09 Aug 2013 08:31 AM PDT As one of the prime markets for exotic supercars and luxury vehicles in general, the oil-rich parts of the Middle East often see high-end tuners vying for the attention of buyers looking to individualize their rides. Germany's DMC may be a fairly new competitor in this rather crowded segment, but it has certainly caught our eye with creations like the Ferrari F12berlinetta SPIA program that forms the base for a new package dubbed the Middle East Edition. Porsche Blows Its Own Horn About the Panamera’s Design Posted: 09 Aug 2013 08:00 AM PDT The Porsche Panamera doesn't really make a case for itself visually, as its bulbous rear end ruins an otherwise clean and restrained package. From the front, it looks like any other Porsche, really, and you couldn't mistake it for anything else - they want you to see a bit of 911 in each and every single one of their cars. Read more » |
Kia to Gauge Reactions for a Nissan Juke Rival with New Concept Model Posted: 09 Aug 2013 07:42 AM PDT The success of B-segment or sub-compact crossover models like the Nissan Juke and GM's trio of CUVs, the Opel / Vauxhall Mokka, Buick Encore and Chevrolet Trax, is forcing other automakers to take notice and prepare their responses. At next month's Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, Kia will introduce an as-of-yet unnamed concept, which it says, will be a "playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish" study hinting "at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the urban environment with style and tenacity".
