Construction Equipment - How Well Do You Know About The Excavator

By Halisse Enmma

You know it is a construction site when you see those huge, heavy-duty vehicles, typically in shades of yellow, orange and black. These are what we generally call as construction equipment. You can find them in all sorts of forms and sizes. They perform different functions and it could be unimaginable now how structures can be built without using them.

You should know, however, that while there is a long list of heavy machines, only some of them are really indispensable. Included here is the excavator. This is the construction vehicle that is primarily used to dig trenches, holes and foundations and to move large objects.

Its basic design consists of an articulated arm and bucket and a cab that is fitted on a pivot or rotating platform. This is basic to construction but is also important for other applications. It can be employed in forestry work, demolition, mining and river dredging, among many others. Its versatility can perhaps be attributed to the fact that it comes in a variety of sizes and that it can have different hydraulic powered attachments.

There are different types of excavators, namely: drag-line, long reach, suction and crawler excavators. Drag-line excavator refers to that excavator type that is mostly in use by workers in mining and engineering. Among this group are the lifting cranes and heavy duty built on-site machines. The second type, which is the long reach excavator is, as its name implies, the excavator with long arm. This is mostly useful for destruction activities like crumpling structures. The third type, the suction excavator or the vacuum excavator, as many would call it, serves to remove debris on the ground using its suction pipe.

This is also another important activity in the mining fields. In the same way, the fourth type, the crawler excavators are also widely-used in mining. Given this, it is safe to assume that the equipment comes with a high price. And for those who don't have the money to make a big investment, making a purchase doesn't sound like a good option. Fortunately, like a dump truck and other heavy equipment, there are other ways by which you can make use of it without the need to buy new. You can look for used equipment sellers to be able to get a more affordably-priced excavator.

But other than this, you can think about equipment rental. With the rental industry gaining popularity, you can look forward to finding any equipment for rent. You can go to local as well as online rental shops. With regards to the latter, you can get some details at the website. Go through the inventory of equipment to determine if it includes the specific type of excavator you require.
