However, you may be rushed from one tourist spot to another and not have enough time to enjoy all that Bali has to offer. If you would like to try a bit more of an adventure, then try renting a car. You could explore the places at your own pace and not be worried about being left behind by your tour group.

Before you make your choice for a car for rent, you need to get your international driving license ready so that you could freely drive around the country. If you don't have this license, you could still roam around the island by using a tourist driving permit which can easily be obtained from Denpasar, Bali's capital city. With this permit, you could legally drive around for a month.

If you don't have a driver's license, the better option would be just to rent a car that comes with a driver. Once you get to your hotel, ask a list of recommended rental car companies from the concierge who would most likely have brochures and calling cards available. Call these companies, compare prices and models of cars available and make your choice.

Being a foreigner in any country is always a challenge, especially in a country where language could be a problem. When looking for a car for rent that comes with a driver, you need to make sure that the driver speaks English well so that you would not have a problem in communication. You would find that many of the well-known cars for hire in Indonesia provide drivers who are conversant in English.

Remember also that unlike some countries, traffic in Indonesia is on the left side. So if you are more familiar with driving on the right side, you may have some difficulty adjusting. In such cases, it is really better to hire a car with a competent driver who knows all the traffic rules and regulations. Find out also what hours would be very busy to avoid traffic jams.

Before paying for the rented car, you need to take it for a test drive, just to maker sure that the brake, clutch and gas pedals plus the AC are working. Most car rental companies do allow their clients to take their cars for a test drive so this should not be a problem. Spend some time checking if the car has dents so that you would not be held responsible for these later on.

Finally, check if the rental price includes insurance premiums. It is never wise to drive in an unfamiliar area without insurance. If the price does not include insurance, pay for the premium to make you feel more protected in case of an emergency.
