Snow And My Vehicle

After completing my college education I moved up to the northeast with my trusty truck. I didn't have much idea about driving on snow as I have always lived in warmer locations. The first winter was awful. The truck lacked a four wheel drive however, I always thought the front wheel drive is ideal to get you through normal situations. The case was not the same in the first winter. Before the first snow fall I rented an apartment that was on top of a hill.

On normal days getting out of the driveway and going in was not an issue. It became difficult to get out of the driveway during the second snowfall. Coming out was no problem unless you wanted to stop or steer. It was more like a nightmare while coming up the driveway. I got stuck a number of times. The driveway was like an ice rink due to the ice and slick at the top. At first I learned to get a running start and come up the driveway without stopping. I moved up without even getting stuck.The driveway became more and more packed with the advent of the severe winter days. I would always get stuck just near the garage entrance. I then had to dig the truck to get in at night.

The condition of my tires were bad by the time the snow melted. The local tire shop offered a huge collection of tires to choose from. I tried to look for the best deal as I was budget-conscious. The sales person explained to me that all the season tires were not ideal for driving during the winter months. I was advised to use performance tires in the summer time and then switch to winter ones in the fall.

At first I thought he was just trying to take me to buy an extra another set of tires. But later I found out that most of the drivers actually opt for two sets of tires. Performance tires for perfect for driving on dry roads. The winter tires are specifically designed for the cold months. You can find the best bargain by switching back and forth.

No other tire would perform better in winter than a set of Cooper winter tires. This way you can save a lot of money. The two sets of tire would last for a longer time than two single set used consecutively. The shop also gave me information about the rebates available online. I then waited for another rebate to save money on the winter set in the fall. The following year, I had no problem making it up my driveway.
