The first three numbers will help you to know where the car originally came from. Different countries always have different designated numbers. So the first will represent the country, the second will be the manufacturer, say Audi, and the third will be the type of vehicle it is. Next the numbers from 4 through to 9 will make up the vehicles descriptor section. The model, transmission type, engine code, restraint system and body type will all be included. The last ones show the manufacturing plant, model year and the number your car was assigned while on the assembly line.

There is a sequence of 17 numbers on this plate that is attached to the body as well as different parts of the engine. This plate needs to be free of any damage, if there are scratches it could indicate that it has been tampered with. Each manufacturer uses special rivet heads to ensure that they are the originals used.

With the way the world is evolving and with the number of vehicles on the roads increasing exponentially the need for a system of control is becoming more and more paramount. One thing is for certain whether one is simply looking to do a full car history check, or to control the flow of motor vehicles throughout an entire country, this system will play an integral role. This unique identifying system is here to stay.
