Battery Specialist Doubts Feasibility of $35,000 Tesla Sedan Posted: 25 Sep 2014 11:12 AM PDT Dr Menahem Anderman is a known "battery skeptic" and he's been organizing the Advanced Automotive Batteries Conference for nearly twenty years now. He's one of the voices that always tries to cull overly optimistic statements and now he's picking on the supposed $35,000 Tesla sedan, or what's sometimes been referred to as Tesla's 3-Series. The predicted price for the new EV sedan is based on an estimation that the price per kWh will drop to under $100 by 2025. Instead, Dr. Anderman insists the price per kWh will not be any lower than $167 – in fact, he says it's unlikely to drop below the $200 until then. Thus, the smaller Tesla sedan will not cost $35,000, but closer to $50,000, in his view, even if the all-electric automaker manages to get its planned Nevada-based Gigafactory going until then. Even so, the new sedan will feature a battery pack that will be a third smaller than the Model S', so maybe we shouldn't discount what Tesla CEO Elon Musk is saying just yet – the model will be the third name in the lineup, after the Model X crossover (pictured).
