Getting A New York Car Title Transfer

When selling or buying per-owned cars there a specific documentation that must be obtained. Proof is required and the transfer proves rightful owner and registrations along with the title can all be done together. Location, Cost and other restrictions are all important to take into account when getting a New York car title transfer.

As a customer at a dealer principle all the title steps will be done for you. For temporary measures there is a temporary registration along with licence plates that would all be issued to you. Having information such as current insurance policy, broker, drivers licence and current ownership should there be a trade in or plate transfer.

Being new to New York and once residence is established the resident has 30 days to transfer the title. Insurance must also be New York based in order to get to obtain the ownership. Keeping in mind its probably best to go ahead to get these matters taken care of right away as a precautionary measure. There are separate rules for residents that live in NY and that buy out of state with can be inquired about directly at the DMV.

Some of the items needed before a title is issued with include sales bill, title with all information filled out by the seller, full odometer reading, a detailed damage disclosure, valid identification from New York, registration forms, some government id with date of birth, payment for the title and some other required documents. Get a full list of all detailed forms and print out so keep track of documents to avoid a rejected application.

Costs are involved such as sales taxes, licence plate fees, registration fees and some other costs. The local DMV will calculate the fees. Expect about a fifty dollar charge for titling alone. You can inquire at the dealer for full cost for all these fees as its relativity the same across the board at a registered dealership.

With all the rules and regulation for titling its a good idea to go to the direct information center on the DMV site. When it comes to gifting, family and other criteria there are other stipulations and exceptions. Such there be a passing in the family there are a few exceptions that are sightly different then a regular business transaction.

Obtaining a secondary title for extra precaution is not a bad idea. Be prepared to pay about a twenty dollar change either with a money order or by personal check. There are two ways to get the back up ownership, in person or by mail or the only avenues as online request are not able to be fulfilled due to restrictions for safety and fraud. Having a copy with your insurance and in a family safe is recommended.

Eliminating delays or other hiccups along the way is simply done by having all documentation in order before taking a visit to the local DMV. Any licenced dealer will complete all the paperwork for the buyer and usually there are cots involved, keep in mind the process is only between one to two days. Selling or buying visit the registered website to get the lists and print out all papers for full disclosure.
