Car Selling Is Really Fun

By Richard Thompson

There are people who mistakenly think that the job of a sales representative is dull and boring. The truth is these are the people who have kept and are keeping the automotive industry alive. Whenever new automotive models are brought out, it is the job of the sales representative to sell them.

Cars are long-term investments that could be a bit pricey. This is one reason why customers take their own sweet time in choosing the car they want to buy.

These people normally look at conformability, safety, and fuel efficiency. If the car dealership can offer a car that has all 3 features then the sales representative only needs to make the right moves to close the deal with a satisfied customer.

Selling a car could be quite challenging and takes practice and time to build rapport with the customer. Selling cars is not for everybody but if one has the talent for selling then there is really no reason to not give it a go.

When a possible customer enters the shop, the sales representative knows that the person is looking for a car. After the initial pleasantries, it is time to get to the point.

* Will it be for personal or family use? Does the customer have any model in mind?

* Does the customer do a lot of work or carry a lot of stuff?

* What is budget or spending range of the customer?

* Do they want certain safety features in the car?

* Which color do they prefer?

After getting a few pertinent details, the sales representative can show what models are available that fit the customer's requirements. This includes the safety features, fuel consumption for highway and city driving, and other amenities that are included with the car.

The sales representative usually allows the customer to get into the drivers' seat to get a feel of the car interior. The customer, along with the sales representative, can also test drive the car to have a feel of its road performance.

Just like any other business, there are some lean days and months in the automotive business. When the lean months happen, the management would come up with promotional offers to entice potential customers.

Some of these offers are zero interest or low payments. Some even offer very low down payments followed by easy payment terms. All of these are developed to make the car price more affordable.

Most customers are concerned about the vehicle's warranty. In case anything happens, what is covered by the warranty?

All the pertinent details about the warranty and its coverage can be explained by the sales representative. In case there are certain aspects that are not included, a service contract is offered.

It may cost a little extra for the customer but the honesty and friendliness of the sales representative is a good indication that the car is already as good as sold.

Sales representatives are accustomed to customers taking a day or even a week to make the final decision of purchasing a car. Good sales representatives know when to give the customer a slight nudge towards purchasing a car without the customer realizing it.

Simply put, the automotive industry does make money by selling cars. This task is easily accomplished by well-trained sales representatives out there on the sales floor.

In addition to the regular basic pay, a sales representative for the car industry also earns additional commissions for each car sold. Now you know why car selling is really fun.

Now, the second most common way that cars are sold is through private sales. Perhaps you are looking at selling your own car. The best way to begin when first planning to sell a car privately is to know the market--to be armed with enough information. This can be done by simply determining how much your old car is worth.

Look for answers to these important questions: Is it a popular vehicle? What kind of buyer is most likely to want this kind of car? Is it likely to receive several offers? Is the car going to be fairly easy to sell? To get answers to these questions with good results, the first step should be to examine several online web sites with car ads.

After you have your answers, the second most important thing is the appearance of the car or truck. Make sure to have it professionally detailed, or do it yourself. Clean the trunk, the engine compartment to some degree, then get out your car wash soap, buckets, and a microfiber towel. Thoroughly wash and dry the vehicle, then turn your attention to the interior, especially the driver's dashboard and seat. Spend a long time detailing the interior, and clean any grime off the steering wheel for example. Now you are ready to place your ad online or in a local paper publication, and get ready to sell your baby!
