Clean Up Your Car's Upholstery

By Cornelius Nunev

Your vehicle's upholstery will become dirty by everyday dirt, food, smoke, sweat and other liquids, sprays, powders and salves. Regular contact with the blazing sun only makes things worse. Here's how to clean your vehicle's upholstery so that you won't be humiliated for your date to see just how revolting you are when you're cruising by yourself.

Stage a preemptive balancing strike

Whenever you are driving, you need to keep away from doing anything besides driving. Give your full attention to the road or pull over to get something you need. Whenever you make an effort to use other things such as the phone, reading materials and food, you could end up spilling or leaving a mess much more often.

Everyday maintenance

Just like you regularly vacuum your home, you should regularly vacuum your vehicle. Vacuum underneath all the mats and on top of them if they need it. Use the different parts to make sure you get all the nooks and crannies. This day-to-day maintenance is important. It makes it harder for grime to set in when the upholstery fibers are upright, which occurs whenever you vacuum.

Stain repellents like Scotchguard are a fine way to shield your carpet from future mishaps. Do not go cheap here, if you are planning to defend your car's carpet upholstery and not age it prematurely.

Special leather cleaner for the vehicle

One nice thing about leather is that it is water resistant usually. That means a spill will not seep through as long as you take care of it right away. All you need is a damp cloth and also you can clean anything. Do not use leather-cleaning goods unless you have a more significant spot. In fact, you can get away with just water unless you spill something such as ink or nail polish.

Washing other things

There are a ton of other things in the vehicle, such as vinyl and rubber that need to be cleaned. It can be a good idea to get an interior protectant to be able to help with the vinyl and rubber to protect them from sun damage. If you use baking soda on a damp rag, you can clean vinyl very easily. Just make sure you use dishwashing detergent and water to rinse it afterwards.

Think about the extras

Dilute coffee spills with cool water and blot. If the spot remains, soak with glass cleaner and blot dry after 5 minutes

Clean greasy stains with paint thinner (test in a discrete area of carpet first) and salt or cornmeal. Let it sit overnight, then vacuum the area

With salt or hairspray, you can get rid of spot from ink

In order to dilute the acid in vomit, you can use club soda or baking soda and water

Getting rid of blood is easy with dry laundry starch and cold water mixtures. Just put it over the blood and let dry. Vacuum in the morning

Cold water is used on alcohol spills

When brightening fading carpet, all you need is a mixture of half-cup of ammonia and one pint of water. This only works if you do not have wool carpet. Just sponge the carpet with the mixture after vacuuming

When you have smelly carpet, you can use Borax. Let it sit for an hour and vacuum it up. Do this over again if you need to get rid of flea eggs and fleas

Static carpets could be rid with a fabric softener/water mixture. Just mix five parts water with one part softener

If you are sick of carpet imprints, you can use iron on low over a damp towel to get rid of it. You can melt things if you leave the iron there though.

Use liquid shoe wax polish on your vehicle mats to keep them looking brand new
