By Karyn Shields

There are a few great American vehicles that need to be converted, in order to be used in some markets. Ford Mustang right hand drive conversion has been bought about as they appear to be more popular. The left hand drive ones were planned and manufactured to be sold in the North American market. Ford is redesigning the Mustang so more of these special cars can be sold. They will be available in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia.

It is always a good idea to take the car to a dealership that has had experience in converting. It will need to have a finish that will not look like it has been done in someone's back yard. At Mustang Sport they will ensure that every part of the change and the compliances will be completed to the highest of standards.

The second generation came out in 1974 to 1978. This was a more fuel proficient car and was based on the Ford Pinto. It started out as a two door sedan but a year later added a wagon and hatchback model. In the ten years of production there were over three million sold and out produced the AMC Gremlin and Chevrolet Vega.

The AMC Gremlin was a small two door car and was created in Canada, Mexico and the United States. It was widely liked as it was fuel sufficient and was faster than the other subcompacts of its time. It was referred to as the first American built import. This little cars production was over six hundred and seventy one million and the body style never changed.

The interior check of the steering column and the dashboard is a good place to start. Ensure that all the passenger airbags, glove box door, centre console and instrument faces are fitted. The dashboard will need to have been fitted properly and the steering wheel must be in line with the centre of the driver's seat. The adjustable column for the steering wheel must be able to adjust easily.

The outer surface as well as under the bonnet must be inspected. All indicators need to be checked to see that all the changes are neat and that all lenses are moisture free. The cooling systems, air conditioning and well and the fuel and oil lines need to be fitted onto the engine bay correctly. There must be no sign of damage or leaks at all.

The Chevrolet Vega was produced from 1970 to 1977 and came in a notchback, wagon and a two door hatchback. Each of these was motorized by a four cylinder engine and had a very light aluminium alloy cylinder block. Many were however recalled because of their safety, dependability as well and the engineering and sturdiness problems. Because of this General Motors and the car got bad reputations and all production halted in 1977.

The right hand drive conversion will need to have all the electric switches for the windows transferred and they must all be fitted correctly as well as neatly. When pushed do they work smoothly with no sticking? Always check the air conditioner and ensure that the fan will work on all the speeds. Check that the airflow is good and that it is cool air coming from the outlets.
