General Requirements For 5 Hour Pre Licensing Course

By Ruthie Calderon

New drivers are required to take the pre-licensing or the five hours course by the Department of Motor Vehicles. This will enable the new driver to secure his New York Approved driving license. This has been occasioned by the realization that the 5 hour pre licensing course is the only opportunity such drivers have to learn basic road safety rules, defensive driving and safety driving.

The studies can be taken at commercial driving schools, colleges and high schools, among other facilities. There also are DMV approved centers throughout the country that facilitate these studies. Only approved centers can be used to conduct these studies. The list of approved centers can be obtained from the DMV website.

Colleges and high schools that provide drivers with this specialized training require the approval of NY Education Department. Their instructors and teachers require driver teacher certificates to be allowed to teach. Driving schools are only allowed to employ instructors who are endorsed by virtue of their instructor and classroom qualification in driving.

A person is regarded as a new driver as long as you are making the application for the first time. People whose licenses were waived by other legal articles are not required to take the test. This also means that persons with suspended licenses are not required to sit through the course.

According to the law, it is the commissioner of motor vehicles who approves an individual, municipality, agency or school that intends to over such courses. The curriculum and mode of instruction used in schools and colleges must also be approved by the department. The units to be covered in such colleges must include highway safety Richmond Hill, NY and general driver training. The design of their curriculum and training facilities must be approved.

The only qualification that is approved is one obtained from an accredited institution. This institution must have been vetted and found to have complied with all licensing requirements. Its curriculum design, mode of instruction and operating licenses must be valid. Their instructors and training facilities must live up to expected standards.

A certificate is issued by the Department of Motor Vehicle through your training center. It indicates that you have completed all the training necessary and gotten requisite approval. Holders of college driver education certificates that are less than two years old are not required to go through training again.

New drivers have the option of participating in an approved research program instead of taking this course. The DMV needs to approve the design, length and type of research for it to qualify a candidate for exemption. The aim of such research programs is to improve driving efficiency and general road safety. It assists new drivers to develop better driving skills.

Some of the units covered during training are the DMV point system, highway transportation system and administrative law. The new drivers are also taught defensive driving and the effects of emotions, attitudes and skills of each driver on the road. They will be introduced to the laws of physics and how they apply to driving. There are many more factors to be covered during training.
