Makers Of Supercars Not Hurting Due To Gas Price Hike

By Cornelius Nunev

supercars will always be immune in some respects to gas prices, and firms that make them have not been bothered by the recent gas price hikes. There are a growing number of high performance green automobiles, but that hasn't stemmed the tide of traditional performance automobiles in the least. A person can afford a few extra dollars at the pump if they can afford an Aston Martin.

McLaren quicker than Bugatti

In 2014, McLaren will have a new automobile to debut that it is working on, AutoWeek reports. McLaren is a race automobile business. The business that brought the world the F1, the fastest road automobile in the world for nearly a decade, is releasing its new car this year, the MP4-12C, but McLaren isn't content to rest on its laurels. A 5-liter engine with about 800 horsepower will be in the car that McLaren is now working on. The automobile is projected to go from 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron, go from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds and cost more than $500,000.

More jobs at GM

CNN states that about 250 new jobs will be added to General Motors to be able to invest $131 million into a new Corvette. This is so it can develop a Chevrolet's sports vehicle that is even better. In Bowling Green, Ky., lots of jobs will open up at the GM plant where the Corvette has been made since 1981. GM will be producing the new Corvette there. Information on the vehicle isn't available yet. There still isn't a release date either. The name ZL1 Camaro is a new Camaro Chevrolet is coming out with. Popular Mechanics reports it will not be available until 2012 though. The ZL1 will have the same motor that the Cadillac CTS-V has. It produces more than 550 horsepower with its 6.2L V-8 engine.

Individuals want more than fast in an automobile now

The environment isn't the top priority for auto automobile makers for sure. Still, some of these auto makers want to help a little bit. In order to produce a "green" McLaren, the automaker is hoping to get some hybrid car engineers. The new 918 Spyder is an automobile sold by Porsche currently that is a plug-in hybrid that will top out at 199 miles an hour, drives three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid can on electric power alone and will go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, states USA Today. It will also get 78 miles per gallon. By 2015, Ferrari is hoping to have hybrid versions of all its cars while already having released a hybrid version of the 599 in 2010, the Daily Mail states. The hybrid 599, the 599 HY-KERS, will do 200 miles an hour and get up to 25 miles per hour, though it still has a V-12car can get 200 miles per hour and up to 25 miles per hour. Popular Science states that in 2009, Lamborghini declared it wanted to have a hybrid by 2015. Even the beasts with impressive firepower under the hood are going green.
