Important Information About Inclinometers For Sale

By Kenya England

Measurement of angles of slope, depression, and elevation of an object in reference to gravitational pull is done using a piece of equipment called an inclinometer. The equipment also goes by other names such as level meter, level gauge, tilt indicator, gradiometer, gradient meter, roll indicator, slope alert, slope gauge, and declinometer. Both positive and negative slopes can be measured in three units of measurement, that is, topo, degrees, and percent. One can find inclinometers for sale in stores that sell related pieces of equipment anywhere around the world.

Slope gauges are made differently. The modern-day apparatus are much more sophisticated and include several features that give them more capabilities. While the ancient models only measured in a single unit of measurement, modern ones measure in all the three units of measurement. Such features give users more flexibility in their work.

The working of various models of clinometers varies depending on the kind of technology used to build it. However, generally, they work by generating some artificial horizon and measuring angular tilt with respect to that horizon. The user must have a clear line of view with the point being measured. Precision and accuracy are dependent on a few factors such as temperature, vibration, cross-axis, zero offset, shock, linearity, sensitivity, acceleration, gravity, and deceleration among others.

Clinometers should be bought basing on how accurate they are. The age of a technology plays a big role in determining accuracy. Higher levels of accuracy are achieved in devices that use latest technology. Accuracy is also a variable factor among models. Accuracy is restricted to one degree in most devices however.

Tilt gauges find use in many devices including aircraft flight controls, specialty switches, cameras, and automobile security systems. Additionally, they are used in other applications that require measurement of tilt such as boom angle indication and platform leveling. The most common implementations of roll indicators are pendulums, gas bubble in liquid, electrolytic, liquid capacitive, and accelerometer. In more recent times, roll indicator technology has also found application in video games.

Clinometers used in aircraft flight control and other sensitive functions are very accurate. Digital versions of the device can maintain an accuracy level of 0.0001 degrees. Various factors determine accuracy. However, accuracy typically ranges between 0.01 degrees and positive or negative 2 degrees. Sensor and situation of operation further determined accuracy.

How accurately a device works can be greatly determined by the casing it is placed inside. The choice of casing should be done carefully. Good casings can withstand tear and wear and pressure from daily use because they are made from strong material. The ability of ABC plastics to resist deformation under various temperature conditions make them preferable over PVC plastic.

When buying an inclinometer, the price should not be the main factor of consideration. It is best to invest in a high quality device that will remain operational under different conditions for a long time. Low quality products are likely to cause problems in the future and should be avoided.
