A cost effective and great way to customize your car is to fit aftermarket rims. Most vehicles are manufactured with alloy or steel wheels as standard but there are now many suppliers who can offer rims to enable customers to improve the looks of vehicle. If you are considering buying wire wheels, there are a few things to take into account beforehand.

Car wheels can be purchased off the shelf for most of the vehicles on the road and also for many classics. They will range in size, finish and price and there is something to suit every ones tastes. There are many web based suppliers who stock thousands of sets and also automotive stores in your local area who can order rims for you.

A lot of people choose to buy a second hand set of rims and this can save you some money. They can be found for around two hundred dollars per set and are to be found in many junk yards and garages. Some of the pre owned sets may need a little refurbishment and there are companies that can powder coat them to give a good finish.

For people with larger budgets, you can have a set of wire rims custom made. Varying in size and the number of spokes, they will start from approximately two thousand dollars rising depending on which style you have selected. The fixing nut or hub cap can also be customized with a logo of your choice.

If you are upgrading to new rims, a little careful research should be done before you buy. If the diameter of the new wheels is larger than the ones that are currently fitted, you should check that they will fit without hitting the bodywork. Other modifications that may be required will be adjustments to the springs and brakes.

It is also worth noting that some specialist tools may be needed when deciding to change the wheels on your car. If a wheel change is needed while you are on the road, the regular tools supplied originally may not be suitable. Many new rims will come complete with all of the accessories that are needed but it is worth checking.

Regular maintenance of the wire rims is also very important and something to think carefully about. Cleaning and polishing spokes can be time consuming and tedious and there are a few tips which can help. Small soft brushes, old laces and clothing can all be used to get into awkward areas. You should also remove the rims periodically to clean behind them and inspect them for any wear.

Before you buy any new wheels, it is worth consulting a qualified mechanic to make sure any modifications to your vehicle are properly carried out. If you are purchasing online, be mindful that you may not get the after sales care that is often provided by a local retailer. It can be worth retaining your original rims in case you decide to sell the car or trade it at a later date.
