Benefits Of Using An Electric Car

By Adam Hampworth

Model X is the crossover vehicle from the Tesla Motors who manufacture electric cars. Tesla had earlier announced that the mass production of Model X would begin late 2013 but at the beginning of March, 2013 though a press release, the company has informed about the postponement of the production to 2014. There were no specific reasons mentioned by Tesla for this postponement but the market watchers have learned that Tesla has picked up few lessons from their Model S and wish to implement them in Model X.

So, what is there in store for the customers in Model X? is the quintessential question that is being making rounds in the electric car lovers. This sneak peak review tries to throw some light on those features albeit in nutshell. Tesla Model X is being built on the same platform as that of its sedan sibling Tesla Model S. But it is more about being a SUV with extra inner space that would be larger than any best-in-class gasoline SUV.

In today's pollution scenario, vehicles that run with fossil fuels are the largest and biggest contributors. They release many harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. On the other hand full electric cars do not have any tailpipe emissions and thus safeguard the environment by not releasing any pollutant. The only contribution of EVs would be through the power plants from which they draw the power. But if the power used by EVs come from wind power, hydro or solar systems then this indirect contribution also gets eliminated completely.

To top it all, EVs have another disadvantage called 'minimal drive range.' They offer the lowest travel distance than the gasoline based vehicles. This challenge is further aggravated by the long hours of charging the vehicle. Though the monthly maintenance cost of the electric cars is much lower than the other types, the battery replacement cost might nullify the savings and at times might exceed all the savings on maintenance cost that was achieved till then. It is estimated that one lithium ion battery would cost $10,000 and upward.

But there is a flipside if at all someone wish to call it so. Model X is roomier than any SUV but it is obese when it comes to the aspect of the weight. It is learnt that this crossover SUV vehicles is almost 10% heavier than Tesla Model S. If this is not a concern and if weight does not matter, then Model X might be your next new car. Bookings are open in official website of Tesla. Just go for it!
